Meditation is not just about sitting on a cushion paying attention to your breathe. It’s about cultivating a sense of inner peace. It’s about focusing more on each moment as it occurs.
One of my favorite singers, Kelley Hunt, sings “These are the days, they are the best days of your life.” Meditation and other tools can help you let go of rehashing the past or planning the future and live your best days right now.
So what can you do?
- Pay attention. Use all your senses and notice where you are right now. Color, sounds, temperature, movement, light, touch – it’s especially gratifying to do this outside.
- Start and end each day with gratitude. Think of three new things you are grateful for. Write them down.
- Try novelty. Look at a familiar object or a flower and list everything unique about it.
- Meditate. Spend some time slowing down your fast paced mind. It’s like an antidote to cultural and technology ADD.
